Our goals
- To protect the interests of tour guides in Norway, and enhance the status of the tour guiding profession.
- To represent Norwegian Guide Associations in national and international forums.
- Strengthen the professional education and training of Norwegian guides.
- To coordinate and distribute information and experience from local and international organizations in a uniform manner.
- To professionally promote Norway through membership.
- To protect and make respectful use of national heritage and cultural monuments.
Education
NGF has developed an Education and Qualification Requirement Plan, and cooperates with local guide accociations and accredited educational institutions in the practical implementation of course management. Regional education contacts oversee and can help organize local guide courses.
Membership
Members of NGF are certified tour guides. Only persons with an approved NGF exam (or equal, approved background) can become a member of the Federation. Membership is organized through local associations. In places where an association does not exist, one can apply for individual membership.
General Assembly / Natonal Convention
The annual general assembly is NGFs highest authority and is held every year before the 1st of April.
The National Convention is held every second year, in a different location each time, thus to promote an understanding and appreciation of all parts of Norway. As a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences, emphasis is placed on improving professionalism through continuing education.
Administration
The Federation has no employees, but is managed by Board members from different areas of the country. The administration and activities of NGF is funded solely by membership fees.
